What is water fasting?
Water fasting is a type of fasting where you can not consume anything other than water.

Most water fasts last between 24 and 72 hours. You should not follow a water fast for longer than this without medical supervision.

Here are some reasons why people try water on an empty stomach:

Religious or spiritual reasons.
Lose weight
To "detoxify"
For its health benefits.
Preparation for a medical procedure.
The main reason why people try water on an empty stomach is because of its health benefits.

This is because several studies have linked fasting with some impressive health benefits. This includes a lower risk of cancers, heart disease and diabetes.

Water fasting can also promote autophagy, a process in which your body breaks down and recycles old parts of your cells that can be dangerous (ICONIC!)
