Hello, I am Ty Mason from, researcher, writer and I have type 2 diabetes. Today I am going to answer the question, it is good semolina for diabetes. But before you get into that, be sure to download my free diabetes management book, which also includes a guide to grocery shopping for diabetes (food to eat and avoid) and other tips to better manage your blood sugar to avoid complications.

Semolina is a flour. Now, it is not a f or o but r o u r. It is made from durum wheat. Semolina is basically the endosperm of durum wheat.

I decided to visit my food dictionary to find out more about this meal. I have found that there are degrees of difference of semolina. Grade 1 Semolina flour is a finely ground endosperm of durum wheat.

Grade 2 Semolina flour is a coarse cereal ground as farina.

Grade 3 Wheatine is whole grain ground wheat. When other grains, such as rice or corn, are similarly ground, they are called semolina with the name of the grain added, ie, corn semolina or rice semolina. We're sticking with Grade 1 for this video.

Many articles that I read were pretty inflexible about one thing. If you want the best pasta ever made, it should be made from durum semolina. Now I love the pasta, so I was very interested to know more about the semolina pasta and the flour that is made.

I was encouraged when I found out that semolina flour had a glycemic index of only 44, a low GI food. Pasta made from semolina varied in low GI in the mid-60s, still only a medium GI food.

So I decided to take a look at the nutritional value of semolina flour.

I was quite surprised to see that one serving of semolina was 601 calories. Most low GI foods are not as high on cals. Then I glanced at the carbohydrates. There are 122 carbohydrates per serving of semolina flour. That's pretty high, but I thought, well, this is a wheat so there must be a ton of dietary fiber. I was wrong, only 7 grams. So I did a quick calculation. The glycemic load of the semolina flour is 51.

That's not good.

So is semolina good for diabetes? No, it is not. The GL is too high. Anything made with semolina could only cause your blood sugar and me and that's not good.

I hope this answers your question is semolina good or bad for diabetes. Do not forget to get your diabetes management book.
