Diabetes type 1 and 2
Diabetes is a disease that occurs when your blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high. It occurs when the body's ability to produce or respond to the hormone insulin is affected.
The main cause of diabetes is the absence or insufficient production of insulin or the inability of the body to use it properly.
Type 1 diabetes also called juvenile diabetes occurs when the immune system attacks and destroys pancreatic insulin-producing beta cells. People with type 1 diabetes do not produce insulin.
Type 2 diabetes: people do not respond to insulin as well as they should. (Resistance to insulin).
Risk factors for type 2 diabetes include family history, age, geography and genetics.
Some causes of type 2 diabetes include lifestyle, excess weight and inactivity.
Symptoms of diabetes include frequent urination, thirst, feeling hungry, fatigue, blurred vision, cuts or pain that do not heal properly.
The prevention of diabetes includes: Examining yourself, maintaining a healthy weight, increasing daily activity, eating a balanced diet and reducing the intake of sugary and processed foods.
