Toenail fungus, or onychomycosis, is a problem that many people have. Some signs of it are inflammation, swelling, yellowing, and thickening or crumbling of the nail.
Certain things help the fungus grow, such as high levels of acidity on the skin, a weak immune system, feet that are always in moist areas such as sweaty shoes or socks, poor washing habits, and diabetes.
If left untreated, the toenail fungus can cause cracking, splitting and even total loss of the toenail. But do not worry, toe fungus can be treated without even spending a lot of money. There are different home remedies that can get rid of the infection in one or two months.
Here are some ways to get rid of the toenail fungus.
Apple cider vinegar
Because apple cider vinegar has acid, it can help block the toenail fungus from spreading. At the same time, it kills bacteria and fungi.
Mix the same amounts of apple cider vinegar and water. Soak the toenail in the mixture for 30 minutes a day. When finished, dry the toenail very well. If you do it every day for a few weeks, it will help you very quickly.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil fights germs and fungi, which helps treat toenail fungus. It is also used to treat other types of skin infections.
Mix a few drops of tea tree oil in a teaspoon of olive oil or coconut oil.
Use a cotton ball to put the mixture on your toe.
Leave it on for ten minutes, and then use a toothbrush to scrub the fingernail slightly.
Do this two or three times a day until the nail cures.
Baking soda can be found in most kitchens, and you can also treat the toenail fungus. It can help block your feet from smelling too much.
Add ½ cup of baking soda, ¼ cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide and ½ cup of Epsom salt to four cups of hot water. Mix the ingredients nicely and then add a ¼ cup of white vinegar to it.
Soak the toenail in this mixture for about ten minutes.
Wash your feet with clean water and dry thoroughly.
Do this twice a day for a few weeks.
White vinegar is a great way to cure toenail fungus because it fights infection and helps set the acid level of the skin.
Mix one part white vinegar with two parts warm water.
Soak the toenail in the mixture for 10-15 minutes.
Rinse the foot and dry thoroughly.
Do this twice a day until the fungus is gone.
Note: If this hurts the skin, add more water to the mixture and soak the foot each day, instead of each day.
Oregano oil kills germs, bacteria, parasites, viruses and fungi, and relieves pain. For these reasons, it is a great thing to use to treat toenail fungus.
Mix two drops of oregano oil in a teaspoon of olive oil.
Put this mixture on your injured toe.
Leave on for at least 30 minutes.
Wash and dry the toe very well.
Do this once or twice a day for three weeks to make it work.
Because mouthwash has alcohol, it can kill germs, protect it from bad bacteria and fungi. It is used in the mouth to kill bacteria and germs there, and can also be used to rinse toe fungus.
Fill a small tub with Listerine mouthwash, or with a mixture with equal amounts of Listerine and white vinegar.
Soak your finger in the mixture for about 30 minutes. Then rub the toenails gently.
Clean and dry your finger thoroughly.
Do this once or twice a day, until it heals.
Garlic has allicin and ajoene which can kill fungi and treat toe fungus.
Mix the garlic oil with a uniform amount of white vinegar.
Put the mixture on and around your toenail and cover it with a bandage.
Leave it on for a few hours, and then take the bandage off.
Do this every day until it heals.
Note: If you do not have garlic oil, you can make your own. Fry two garlic cloves crushed into two tablespoons of olive oil, and then strain the oil.
These cures can only work if you use them the right way. Try cures for at least a month or two to work. If you continue to try them, you can cure the infection of the toenails and prevent it from happening again.
