How Lack of Sleep and Sleep Apnea Can Cause Weight Gain
There are two hormones that make you gain or lose weight and both increase or decrease because of the amount of sleep you have each night.
The first hormone is called Ghrelin whose purpose is to tell us when we have to eat.
Lack of sleep will cause you to produce more Ghrelin that causes weight gain.
The second hormone is leptin, the hormone that tells us to stop eating. When you do not sleep enough, you produce Leptin, also causing us to overeat.
Too little leptin and too much Ghrelin caused by lack of sleep will make you gain weight.
To aggravate the injury your metabolism slows down when you suffer from sleep deprivation.
The brain, which is the most energy-intensive organ in your body, uses sleep to cleanse the waste it produces during the cause of its waking hours.
If the waste is not removed from your brain during sleep it brings in many problems associated with weight gain, depression and dementia.
Sleep apnea occurs in two forms: obstructive sleep apnea and central sleep apnea.
You can have any of the forms of sleep apnea and even know it.
The symptoms of sleep apnea are wheezing or choking sounds along with snoring.
Sleep apnea can be the cause of your sleep deprivation and one of the reasons why you are gaining weight while following a strict diet.
The first rule of a good night's sleep is to have no TV or computers in the room.
The second to sleep well is to sleep in a cool, dark, quiet room
The third must have a regular sleep schedule and keep it seven days a week.
