Dr. Sarah Hallberg is the medical director of Virta Health, the first clinically proven treatment to safely and sustainably reverse type 2 diabetes without medication or surgery.
As a physician and exercise physiologist with a passion for helping people stay healthy through diet and exercise, he is responsible for providing medical supervision to the Virta expert medical team and oversees the clinical strategy for Virta Clinic participants .
Prior to joining Virta, Dr. Hallberg founded the Medical Supervision Weight Loss Program at Indiana Arnett University, where she still serves as Medical Director. His clinic was the host of the Virta clinical trial. She is also an assistant professor of clinical medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine, and previously served as an internal medicine physician at Indiana University Health for six years.
An expert in metabolic control and type 2 diabetes, Dr. Hallberg is also the executive director of The Nutrition Coalition, a non-profit organization that seeks to educate the public and legislators on the need to strengthen the national nutrition policy so that base in a body of conclusive science, and where that science is absent, to encourage further investigation.
A low-carb enthusiast, Dr. Hallberg practices what he preaches by living a ketogenic lifestyle and his TEDx Talk, "Reversing Type 2 Diabetes Begins to Ignore Guidelines" (has been seen 1.2 million times.
Dr. Hallberg's credentials include: Internal Medicine Certified by the Board of Internal Medicine of the United States, Obesity Medicine certified by the Board of Obesity Medicine of the United States, Board Certification in Lipidology by the American Board of Lipidology Clinical and Clinical Exercise Physiologist Certificate Certified by ACSM.
He received his bachelor's and master's degree in kinesiology and exercise science from Illinois State University and his medical degree from the University of Des Moines.
